The blog comes up if you double click, even if you get a failure notice the first time.

A lot of this is stale now.

I, too, am relieved there is no TC champion. I knew I didn't want to see a TC champion in 2007, but I thought I could handle it two years later in 2008. But no. It'll be a long time before it won't be painful to hear a potential TC winner (other than Barbaro) called "the best thoroughbred in three decades." Sometime in the past five weeks someone on ABR wrote that there are some people who don't want a TC champ unless it's Nicanor! I don't think in those terms, I just don't want Barbaro to be overlooked.

And wasn't it more fun in 2007 to have Street Sense win the Derby, then Curlin nip him in the Preakness, then have Rags nip Curlin in the Belmont, while all the time Hard Spun is making the boards (is that the right expression?).

I didn't watch the Belmont. I didn't want to see Dutrow and Iavarone in the winner's circle with Penny Chenery. I feel bad, guilty about BB now, though. The lead headline on the NYT Sports page Sunday was harsh. It read, "Not fit for a crown". BB didn't know he was getting steroids. He probably didn't even like getting the shot!

Yay! Sirrus came through!

I have mixed emotions about the TC, too...I didn't want to see BB's peeples in the winner's circle with Mrs. Chenery either, but I feel sorry for BB...he only did what he could. I have a feeling his peeples were too busy counting their money and flapping their lips instead of getting him ready for the race. I don't think BB was prepared for that race, that track, that post position, and that heat. And that was not BB's fault. I'm just glad he's OK and I hope he retires.

I think that they couldn't get Big Brown ready for the Belmont because of his foot. Maybe, had it not been so sweltering, he could have raced better, but without practice time.... He's still a winner in MY book, though, because he's just doing what he's been asked....run. It's ironic to me that Kent was such a big talker several years ago and had to come East to race because soooo many people didn't care for him, his ego and his mouth and yet Dutrow didn't ever learn from that lesson. I have to be honest, I DID want a Triple Crown winner and I wanted it to be Big Brown. BUT, I would have rather NOT had his owners been his owners, if that makes sense. BB has such a personality:)

Yole already know how I feel about this racing 'stuff', so I'm just gonna keep my mouth 'shut'...

I hope yole will be having a fine day today:) I saw the footage on the news last night with those homes being swept away in the river in WI!! My Gosh!! At least w/tornadoes, the land is left...these poor peeps don't even have their LAND anymore:( I sure hope things in the mid-wing calm down and FASSSSSSSSSST!!

I also know the heat in the No/East Wing is just AWFUL...Nat? Is that you, too? I hope cooler temps/lower humidity find their way to yole, too!

Yes, it's hot here. It's early for a 90 degree plus heat wave. It is supposed to break tonight with thunderstorms. I wish they'd let us out early.

Gosh Nat....I wish they would too!

Channel 3 out of Sacramento has been carrying a live feed for over an hour of bad fire just off I-5...a condominum complex started on fire...something like 40 units burnt to the ground...the winds are quite strong today, low humidity and homes, four of them south of the condo complex have also burnt to the ground, it is just awful:(

It is windy up here in the hills today, too and the grasses are all so brown...hope nothing breaks out here:-O

My fren from the 'hood' just called me to say a Doe has a badly broken leg:( poor thing! She will eventually 'disappear', as the Coyotes will finish her off! Her yearling is 'hanging with her'....Animal Control can't help, because she can still get up and move away..also, it's hard to keep track of them while they are still mobile...this is one part of living in the hills I have never been able to get used to:( I wish I could find her and just shoot her and put her out of her misery, but I'd get arrested for doing that, cause you can't shoot a gun in a neighborhood.

I inquired once a few years ago, re: taking the deer who are injured to a 'rehab' place...the Fish & Game Warden told me they go into shock and won't survive the transport...it's just 'nature' and sometimes, Famblee, nature isn't so pretty:( Makes me awfully sad, and I hope I won't see her! I'm sorry my fren called me with this information:(

A few years ago, some idiot was out our way, poaching....got a Doe in her lower jaw!! OGod!! It was the most horrible injury!! I called Animal Control, but the deer ran away from the lady...the Sheriff came too, but like he said, they are so hard to find...and if someone did see her, the kindest thing they could do is finish her off....Fish & Game came, they spent two or three hours out here trying to find her to no avail. It took her 8 days to die:( I fired of one of my 'infamous' FLAMING letters to the local newspaper and suggested if poachers needed food they could call Interfaith, first of all, and secondly I suggested whomever was yielding that rifle take some shooting courses, i.e., learn to shoot!! and let them know, too, that all the authorities were aware of their act and they were on the look out for more of the same. It just nearly tore my heart out worrying for that beautiful little girl deer:(

Angel Nat, keep cool, I think this is your last really hot day. We have been lucky, all the flooding is all around us in the Mid Wing but we're fine here. Those poor peeples in WI, those houses getting washed away just made me sick. And now that lake is completely dry, no water left..like something from a horror movie. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has declined an appeal from the owners of a horse slaughtering plant who challenged an Illinois law prohibiting the killing of horses for human consumption.
Cavel International Inc. closed its plant in DeKalb, Ill., last year after a federal appeals court upheld the ban. The company urged the justices to step in to allow the facility to reopen. The court did not comment on its order Monday.
The plant was the last horse slaughterhouse in the United States. About 40,000 to 60,000 horses were there annually, and most of the meat was shipped to be eaten by diners overseas.
Two other U.S. plants, both in Texas, also closed in 2007.
The case is Cavel International, Inc., v. Madigan, 07-962.

I'm tired after worry last night how we would manage to get out for the train.

My cat Dollie is hiding under my bed. I think she smells my nephew's cats on his belongings.

I don't recognize that sponge ball. I probably was born too early.

I think it had something to do with Kangaroo? My daughter had one, it was yellow and she rode it all over the place, hopping everywhere!! I'll ask if she might remember it's 'name' next time I talk to her:)

Hope Dollie 'warms up' to the 'sniffs' of newby kit-kats soon, hope she realizes they aren't really in her home, but their scent.

Happy Tuesday lunchtime, y'all!!

We're back from a wunnerful time visiting alotsa grand places...Canada, the Mighty Mackinaw Bridge, Soo Locks and the Lilac Festival at Mackinaw Island....all soooo pretty, interesting and fun!! Came home last night to a freezer that went out...baaaddd smell and alllllll my corn, okra, blueberries and peas that I put up last year that I didn't eat over the winter are GONE, plus the meat and ice cream!!! It took 8 trash bags and alotsa tears on my part. Then hubby found out that the pool pump motor froze up (just a term, I guess) and that has to be repaired! Sheesh, any money I saved flying AirTran is now good and gone:( We didn't have ANY flight delays and were even given free sodas and pretzels...on the way there I upgraded to 1st class and we got free drinks and Walker Shortbread Cookies!!!!! They took my cherry honey away in the airport in MI on the trip back....I'd put it in my carryon by mistake and it was 12 oz which was too big to allow. Made me sad, though, cause I was really looking forward to hot biscuits with cherry honey slathered on them! Oh well...

Glad to see the site is working perfectly!! I'm glad to be back with my famblee, too:)

Back again.

We made our train easily again this morning. It turns out my nephew doesn't eat breakfast or shower in the morning which saves time. I had gotten him a box of those granola chewy fruit and nuts bars so at least he can snack on them.

Famblee, a neighbor boy and good friend of my son & daughter was shot yesterday...he's a police in a nearby city and was chasing someone suspicious at 3 in the morning. The guy, on a bike, turned and shot him below his bulletproof vest in the stomach. Please, keep him in your prayers!

OhLinda!! I am SO sorry, and YES, I will say some words for this man who puts his life on the line each day he leaves for work!

I have a very dear fren here in these Foothills...her 'honey-man' a Sheriff's Deputy for more than 20 years left one morning for work and never came home...he wasn't shot, but was killed by an idiot driver who neglected to see him coming...running Code Three..lights/sirens....and just Monday, a Deputy in a nearby County was killed...the high-power rifle shot penetrated his vest...three daughters....a single dad:(

O.K., seems we have MEDIA BLITZING to 'BLITZ' this day, Famblee....so I'm off to begin the 'blitzin'....cul8r:)

We have a program in IL where you can donate to buy bullet proof vests for police dogs here...I think it's Vest A Dog...they have a really cute book of prayers for doggies as one of their fund raising items....every now and then, they have a ceremony on TV when the dogs get their vests..it's very touching...

I was thinking that Slew was going to figure the white on his hoof was dried up marshmallow from the camping trip but the Cool Whip is even BETTER!!!! LOL!!! He IS such a good sport!

Our police officer friend is doing better. I spoke with his mama yesterday while he was sleeping. They still haven't caught the guy who shot him but they did pick up someone of interest last night. A really great man who knew the officer from patrolling his business over the years has given a $1,000 reward to anyone who can give a lead to solve the case!! That prompted another to do the same. It should be the city's job to do that but they won't! Of course I'll send money, too, because it's just too important NOT to!! He is like one of my own children...he's 27 and I've known him since he was liddle...took him to school....had him at the house all the time. Someone who puts his life on the line each and every day and the durn city won't even offer a reward of their own. Something's wrong with this, for sure!

Great news, famblee! They believe they've caught the man/boy who shot our friend!! He's just 18, which breaks my heart....where on earth were his parents at 3:00 in the morning when he was out riding a bike (with drugs, they later found)?? That's probably the reason he shot Timothy...didn't want to get caught with drugs...didn't think of shooting a police officer as trouble, I guess. After the reward money was offered, calls started pouring in and they check out each one of them carefully...and...they got their man!!! I guess he's innocent until proven guilty but I look at it that his prints are all over the bike he left behind when he ran, so..... Thank you Big Big Boss Above!!!
